Jack Russell Terrier

About

These little dogs are just too cute for words. They are lively and energetic, just like their RL counterparts.

On the day that the Jack was introduced to SL, 24 lucky people won a free Jack Russell Terrier because they had participated in the VKC Favorite Breed Poll. Still more lucky people won a free Jack Russell Terrier because they were chosen at random from among the visitors to one of the VKC Dog Parks during the release party.

Instincts

  • Basic Positions: stand, sit, down, bang, beg, bellyup, shake, rest
  • Basic Activities: come, getbone, howl, itch, roll, rove, sniff, speak, wag, wander
  • Other Activities: go, run, on, greet, get (These require you to name a destination or an object; for example, "Fido go Sandry" or "Fido run redball" or "Fido greet Bichon")
  • Owner-only commands: heel, follow (Follow also requires you to name a destination)
  • Special command: fetch (Requires a redball toy, free at VKC Dog Parks)

These instincts are not described in any detail because it will be much more fun for you and your dog to try them out together.

Special Commands

  • here

This command tells the Jack Russell Terrier to jump onto the shoulders of its owner. When an owner gives this command to the dog, the avatar bends down just in time to catch the little dog as it leaps into the shoulders of its owner. The owner can then walk around and even TP while holding the dog. Only the owner may give this command and the owner must grant permission for the command to work.

Permission: Before the "here" command will work, the owner of the dog must give permission to allow the dog to animate his avatar. To do this, use the following command:

  • attach

A menu will appear seeking permission to animate the avatar. Click "yes" to grant permission. The dog will remember this permission until it is revoked by the owner, so this usually is a one-time command. Once the dog has permission to animate the avatar, the owner only needs to use the command "here" to get the dog in his arms.

Stop Carrying Dog: To stop carrying the dog, the owner should right-click on the dog and select drop from the pie menu. The dog will jump down to the ground. If you prefer, you may right-click on the dog and select detach from the pie menu. In this case, the dog will appear in your inventory.

Special Poses

When you pet this dog, he sits while you pat the sides of his head. Then he rolls to expose his belly, wiggling in pleasure as you rub his tummy. In gratitude, he turns and licks you on the cheek, causing you to wipe your face.

The following poses add liveliness and charm to tricks you teach your dog. They must be used with the command pose. For example, to get the dog to bow down in the play pose, you would say, "Rex pose play."

  • bellyup2 (similar to bellyup but dog holds his body in a different position)
  • down2 (try it and see what the dog does)
  • lick1 (dog lowers his head with his mouth open)
  • lick2 (dog raises his head with his mouth open)
  • lookleft (dog turns his head to the left)
  • lookright (dog turns his head to the right)
  • play (dog lowers his front end while keeping his hind end up with his tail held high)

Color Options

The collar can be changed using the tint and color commands. When working with color, it is important to remember the natural color of the collar, as this will affect the colors you choose. It is not possible, for example, to have a white collar.

  • tint-1 (restores the collar to its original red color)
  • tint-2 (makes the collar invisible)
