Penguin

About

This bright little bird, a holiday surprise from Enrico Genosse, is an absolute delight. His behavior is so comical that people simply laugh with glee when they watch him. Since he is copyable, not transferable, when you get one you can have a whole flock, each with his own name. Because he is copyable, not transferable, you cannot claim your penguin at the Dog Clinic should he become lost. Instead you can simply rez another copy.

As with all VKC pets, you can command several at once by addressing the group as "dogs." For example, you might say "dogs come" and your whole flock of penguins will come waddling to you. Your nearby VKC dogs will also come. If you wish to command only your group of penguins, you can say, "pen come," and all penguins will toddle up to you but your dogs will ignore the command.

Just like the VKC Dogs, the VKC Penguin obeys spoken commands, learns new tricks, and develops an individual personality.

Instincts

  • Basic Positions: stand, sit, down, bang, beg, bellyup, shake, rest
  • Basic Activities: come, getbone, howl, itch, pounce, roll, rove, sniff, speak, wag, wander
  • Other Activities: go, run, on, greet, get (These require you to name a destination; for example, "Pen go Sandry" or "Pen run redball" or "Pen greet Bichon")
  • Owner-only commands: heel, follow (Follow also requires you to name a destination)
  • Special commands: fetch (Requires a redball toy, free at VKC Dog Parks), slide (Requires a destination)

Special Poses

You should see him swim! There is no command for swim. You simply give him a command that causes him to enter the SL water. As soon as he detects that he is in water, he will start swimming.

The following poses add liveliness and charm to tricks you teach your penguin and may be used in your own tricks. They must be used with the command pose. For example, to get him to look to the left, you would say, "Emperor pose lookleft."

  • bellyup2 (similar to bellyup)
  • drop (pose to drop a toy or other object from his mouth)
  • hug (for hugging)
  • swimleft, swimright (for swimming)
  • lookleft, lookright (penguin turns his head)
  • tummy (pose to slide on his tummy)

Color Options

The color of the scarf on the penguin can be changed using the collar and c-color commands.

  • collar reset (restores the scarf to its original bright red color)
  • collar hide (makes the scarf invisible)
  • collar show (makes the scarf visible)
  • c-color 100 0 0 (adds a deep red tone to the scarf)

Giving Penguins as Gifts

If you want to get one as a gift for someone, look for the Penguin Gift Vendor in any VKC Dog Park. Your friend will receive a penguin courtesy of you. Alternately, you can adopt a penguin for your friend from the VKC Marketplace store.

Update

The Penguin Database is separate from the Dog Registry. You will find a Penguin Updater in front of the clinic in any VKC Dog Park. Click on it and, if you own a Penguin, it will deliver an updated Penguin to you.

Remember that your Penguins are copy, no transfer. Always keep a copy of your Penguin with his latest tricks in your inventory. If something happens, then all you have to do is rez another Penguin.

Other Considerations

The VKC Penguin is a copyable but not transferrable. If your penguin is lost or becomes injured, you simply rez a new one from your inventory. Remember to always keep a recent copy of your penguin in your inventory as a backup. The services of the VKC Dog Clinic are not necessary.

Some people adopted a penguin as soon as they were released in 2010. Some of these very early penguins will not accept a name. If you have an unnamable penguin, please contact a VKC Proven Trainer to arrange a free replacement.
