About Pathfinding

Pathfinding is an amazing new Second Life feature that allows animals like the VKC Dogs to move around without crashing into things. They can find their way around obstacles instead of jumping over them and can find their way in and out of the house, provided the doors are open or if you have a fence around your yard, the dogs/animals will stay inside the yard. You’ll need to keep the gate shut and make sure there are no holes in the fence, of course.

It takes a little bit of work to get your land set up for pathfinding, particularly your buildings. But it’s not difficult by any means and the results can be stunning. You can read more about it on our website and on the Linden Wiki.

Please watch out in the VKC Group for announcements of Pathfinding Classes. If your land is not ready, or if your landlord has disabled Pathfinding, your dog will still be able to work in "Traditional Mode."

To enable the pathfinding mode, say

Special Poses

When you pet the Puppies, you will find that each puppy has her own petting animations. More than that, each puppy has three different petting animations. Setpet is the command that changes the petting animation. You have three options: stroke, hug, and scratch. We will leave it to you to work out which is which and to choose your favorite.

There is another petting animation that stands out from the others. This is an animation that goes on and on, until you stand up. Feeling like you just want to hug your puppy all day long? Well, now you can! Tell your puppy, setpet cuddle and pet her.

The following poses add liveliness and charm to tricks you teach your puppy. They must be used with the command pose. For example, to get the puppy to bow down in the play pose, you would say, "Fido pose play" or "Fido pose play2".

  • beg2, beg3 (slight variations of the beg pose)
  • bellyup2, bellyup3 (similar to bellyup but the puppy holds his head and tail in different positions)
  • down2, down3, down4, down5, down6, down7, down8 (slight variations of the down position)
  • drop (pose to drop a toy or other object from his mouth)
  • play, play2 (slight variations of the play bow)
  • rise, leap, land (this is a trio of poses that are part of the instinct pounce)
  • sit2, sit3, sit4, sit5 (slight variations of the sit pose)
  • stand2, stand3, stand4, stand5 (slight variations of the stand pose)

Collar and Scarf/Bandana

Your Puppy wears both a collar and a scarf (or bandana) when she first arrives in your inventory. You can control the colors of the Puppy's clothing to a remarkable degree. Both the collar and the scarf/bandana have 40 textures built in. You can choose from among these ready-to-wear textures, or you can customize what your Puppy wears.

There are two ways to control what your Puppy's collar and scarf/bandana. You can directly tell her what to wear. You also can cycle through the choices by clicking on the collar or the scarf/bandana.
