It is possible to customize the appearance of most of the VKC® pets using the commands "collar", "bandana", "bow", "c-color", and "b-color". Collar, bandana and bow control the texture of the collar and bandana or bow on the VKC pets created since 2012. The command "c-color" controls the hue of the collar or clip while "b-color" controls the hue of the bandana or bow. All of these commands may be given only by the dog’s owner or friend.

Texture-Changing Bow

The bow on the Yorkshire Terrier changes if the owner clicks on it. The owner can change the textures on the dog’s bow with the “bow” command.

For example:

fido bow 12

fido bow 23

The numbers correspond to each of the bow textures. You can see the range of textures for the bow on the contact sheet of dog bow choices.

You can also tint the bow using the "b-color" (bow color) command. We recommend starting with one of the more neutral textures before you start to add colors but you may find some very interesting effects if you combine the "b-color" command with some of the more brightly colored textures.

fido bow 0 — a silvery/white texture

fido bow 09 — dotted texture with a pale background

fido bow 25 — texture with white stars over a neutral background

fido bow 32 — neutral grey and white plaid texture

To apply the color, you use the "b-color" (bow color) command followed by the three values for the Red, Green and Blue (RGB) components for the color that you require.

For example:

fido b-color 128 0 0 will apply a dark red color to the bow.

fido b-color 0 255 0 will apply a bright blue color to the bow.

fido b-color 0 0 255 will apply a bright green color to the bow.

fido b-color 255 255 0 will apply a bright yellow color to the bow.

fido b-color 255 128 0 will apply a bright orange color to the bow.

You can make almost any color you can imagine by combining the values for Red, Green and Blue. The minimum value for each color component is 0 and the maximum value is 255. To make more subtle colors than the example illustrates, vary the values for the three components so that they are not just the maximum or minimum values. The color chart below will help you choose some RGB values.

To remove or restore the collar, use the following commands:

bow reset (restores the bow to its original color)
bow show (shows the last bow the dog was wearing)
bow [number] (use any of the bow values, 0 to 40 to show a particular bow)
bow hide (makes the bow invisible)

The Hair Clip/Band

When the bow is hidden, you can see the dog’s little hair clip which holds her long hair up out of her eyes. Although this clip or band cannot be hidden, you can change its color using the "c-color" (clip color) command. The color chart below will help you choose the RGB values.

For example:

fido c-color 90 56 156 — makes the clip a sort of dark lilac color

Texture-Changing Collar

The collar on most VKC Dogs and all VKC Cats changes texture if the owner clicks on it. These texture-changing collars provide a wealth of control for customizing them. There are 41 textures built into the collar. You can change the texture by simply clicking on it or you can use the "collar" command along with a value between 00 and 40.

Remember, we are using the name Fido or Felix here as an example. You should use your own dog's or cat's name or the general term "dogs" or "cats" when you give these commands. This command may be given only by the pet's owner or friend.

For example, say:

Fido collar 27 (for a lovely brown leather woven collar on a dog)

Felix collar 03 (for a sparkly gold collar on a cat)

Remember that you can choose the white leather or white woven leather collar and then color it using the "color" commands described above. For example, say:

Fido collar 15 c-color 192 255 255 (for a soft blue woven leather collar)

Customizing Collar Colors

The collar also can be changed using the "c-color" (which stands for collar-color) command. Although you can use any of the textures when you use the "c-color" command, you will get the truest colors if you begin with either of the white leather textures (collar 0 or collar 15). The color chart below will help you choose the RGB values.

Remember, we are using the name Fido or Felix here as an example. You should use your own pet's name or the general term "dogs" or "cats" when you give these commands. This command may be given only by the pet's owner or friend.

For a simple example, say:

felix c-color 100 0 0

to add a deep red tone to the collar the dog is currently wearing.

You can combine the "collar" and "c-color" commands. Say, for example:

fido collar 15 c-color 255 255 0 (to make the collar bright yellow woven leather)

To remove or restore the collar, use the following commands:

collar reset (restores the collar to its original color)
collar show (shows the last collar the dog was wearing)
collar [number] (use any of the collar values, 0 to 40 to show a particular collar)
collar hide (makes the collar invisible)

Texture-Changing Bandana or Scarf

The VKC Pathfinding dogs sport a jaunty bandana in addition to a quality leather collar. This bandana or scarf comes in 41 different textures. You can change the texture simply by clicking on the bandana or you can use the "bandana" command along with a number between 0 and 40.

Remember, we are using the name Fido here as an example. You should use your own dog's name or the general term "dogs" when you give these commands. This command may be given only by the dog's owner or friend.

For example, say:

dogs bandana 01 (for a neutral star pattern, suitable for coloring)

or say:

Fido bandana 11 (cheery yellow bandana in a traditional bandana pattern)

Bandana or Scarf Color Customization

You'll find several of the bandana textures in pale or neutral colors so you can choose one of these and then use a use the "b-color" (which stands for bandana-color) command to create a custom bandana or scarf color for yourself. The color chart below will help you choose some RGB values. Of course, you can use any of the bandana textures as your base texture before coloring, but you will get the truest colors if you start from a neutral texture. This command may be given only by the dog's owner or friend.

For a simple example, say:

Fido b-color 0 0 129

to add a navy blue tone to the bandana the dog is currently wearing.

You can combine "bandana" and "b-color" commands. Say, for example:

dogs bandana 36 b-color 255 105 180

to make the bandana with hot pink dots on a dark background.

To remove or restore the bandana or scarf, use the following commands. You can use the commands "bandana" and "scarf" interchangeably.

bandana reset (restores the bandana to its original color)
bandana show (shows the las bandana the dog was wearing)
bandana [number] (use any of the bandana values, 0 to 40 to show a particular bandana)
bandana hide (makes the bandana invisible)
scarf reset (restores the bandana to its original color)
scarf show (shows the las bandana the dog was wearing)
scarf [number] (use any of the bandana values, 0 to 40 to show a particular bandana)
scarf hide (makes the bandana invisible)

Polar Bear Scarfs

The Polar Bear and the Polar Bear cub show off their good taste with a complement of 41 textures for the soft wollen scarf they wear to keep off the chill of the arctic. You can change the texture simply by clicking on the bandana or you can use the "bandana" command along with a number between 0 and 40, as described above.

RFL Great Dane Collar and Bandana

The original Special Edition RFL Great Dane sports a bandana and has no collar. This bandana comes in 41 different textures that are unique to this dog. You can change the texture simply by clicking on the bandana or you can use the "bandana" command along with a number between 0 and 40, as described above.

Now that this dog has been upgraded, he also has a special collar with a set of textures completely different from that of the other Series II dogs. The bandana (scarf) textures shown above remain unique to this special edition dog.

You can also check the Wikipedia for useful information on colors. We also found a nice table of 500+ colors (note: your browser must be JavaScript-enabled to view the page) which you can use with "b-color", "c-color", or "color" command. You will use the values for Red Green and Blue with the command.
